About Our Tennis School

Head Coach Allen KrissmanIn 1982 a young tennis professional, Allen Krissman, was recruited to come to Japan to train Japanese tennis coaches in the American style of tennis teaching.

At that time, Allen was already an experienced tennis professional and member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) with teaching expertise throughout the United States and Mexico, where he developed nine nationally ranked juniors and worked with the Junior Davis Cup team of Northern Mexico, Monterey, and as an Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tournament director.

After two years of working with the Japan Tennis Association and some other American tennis schools in all aspects of tennis teaching, he began to develop his own image of what a tennis school in Tokyo needed to be.

With this idea, Krissman International Tennis School began in 1984 when Mr Krissman was contacted by an international real estate company (Continental Homes Inc.) to provide tennis instruction for the residents of a new housing development to be called Hanegi International Garden House.

The concept for the school was simple. To provide the best possible professional tennis instruction for both adults and kids in a fun, lovely and relaxing environment. KITS was originally founded on the idea that tennis is supposed to be fun and enjoyable while at the same time provide a great work out, and this is still our core philosophy that holds true today!

The classes were to be taught in English by native English speaking tennis professionals (Certified by the USPTA) at an inexpensive cost that would always consider the Expatiates monitorial exchange rates.

The original school site in Hanegi, was in a beautiful, formal Japanese flower garden surrounded by a hundred year old forest, and yet still only eight minutes out of Shibuya on the Inogashira train line.
The school started with 16 original members and a construction shack to change in. Sadly, after 22 years of service, the Hanegi court site was torn down in the Summer of 2006.

Fast forward to today, and after 25 years of successful programs, Krissman International Tennis School is still a totally independent company and can boast nine school locations teaching hundreds of students per month. Besides providing programs for almost every major international school in Tokyo, KITS also works with varsity and junior varsity programs and provides summer camps at many of our locations.

In 1999 we were the first to introduce the United States Professional Tennis Association Little Tennis Program in Tokyo, now offered throughout the city. In 2001 we were the subject of an article in the USPTA official magazine. Click here to read.

Even with over 25 years experience, we are constantly looking to improve our tennis class offerings and can boast having one of the best and most experienced professional coaching staff in Tokyo. We can proudly say that we are the best in Tokyo.

Learn and play tennis in Tokyo and experience the Krissman Advantage!

Serving the International Community for over 25 years!

Thank you for you support.

Allen Krissman,
President, Director of Tennis,
