FAQ

Here are some answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.

Q.  I read that you are the top tennis school for teaching juniors, but do you teach adults as well?
A.  Yes! and case in fact ,we began as a Adult lesson School 25 years ago. With our top USPTA Staff we have taught aspiring Pro players, Junior Davis cup players and Thousands of Beginners, Intermediates  and advanced club players. Just because we have earned the reputation as the best Junior teachers, we want to assure you we  do excel at and enjoy Adults  Instruction as well. Nobody gives a adult Lesson like Krissman International Tennis School!

Q.  If I miss a class, can I make it up?
A.  Yes, call the coach of the class you want to make up and if there is space and the coach thinks it is a appropriate level for you, you can!

Q.  Can I carry a make-up class into the next session?
A.  No for continuity sake, all lessons must be taken within the same lesson session (10 week period). Any lessons you miss and cannot do in the appropriated time will be forfeited.  So please try to make all the lessons or arrange for a make-up in the appropriate time frame.

Q.  What happens if the lesson gets rained out?
A.  Any lesson that is canceled because of poor weather or facility problems will be made up at the end of the session, thus If you sign up for 10 weeks we will guaranty offering 10 weeks of instruction.

Q.  Can I take a trial lesson before signing up for the full session?
A.  Yes, please call the coach and see if he has space in his class for your trial.  Although you must pay the coach directly for that one lesson fee.

Q.  I want to take a lesson but I do not have a racket, can I borrow one from the school and do you have rackets to purchase?
A.  Yes, KITS is proud to be sponsored by, and a sales representative of American Sports Japan(Wilson Tennis Rackets and Shoes).  Our coaches carry the latest catalogues and many of the newest rackets from Wilson for you to test play.  We can also offer advice and special discounts if you decide you want to purchase a particular model.

Q.  I know you teach group lessons for adults and juniors, but can I take private lessons at your schools?  And If so how much would an hour be?
A.  We do offer private and semi-private lessons at some of our school sites (the Shin-Okubo site for example).  However the cost of court time in Tokyo is quite high so we suggest group lessons as a cost effective way to learn to play, or perhaps a combination of the two.  A private hour will be anywhere from 10,000 to 15,000 yen per hour depending on the particular site you want to play at.  Please call us for the price and schedule.

Q.  My child is only three years old but wants to play tennis, can they start this young?
A.  Of course!  This is the best time to learn with the USPTA innovative "Little Tennis" program that emphasizes hand-to-eye coordination and footwork, as well as racket and tennis ball skills.  We can start children as young as three with soft sponge balls and light short rackets, and then work progressively up to regulation size equipment.

Q.  I am a pure beginner, have never touched a racket in my life and in fact am not very sporty.  Do you have a class for a person like me?
A.  Adults or children of any age and any level can learn to play tennis.  KITS has some of the most experienced professional and patient teachers in Japan.  Come out, get some exercise, and find a new lifelong activity, and besides it's fun!!

Q.  I read somewhere you offer reasonable priced group lessons.  Well how much are they and how many students are in a class?
A.  At KITS our coaches will never have more than eight students on a court and fee's will differentiate according to which school your taking lessons at.  An example would be a 1.5 hour group night lesson under the lights at our Roppongi teaching site would be about 3,200 yen per lesson.

Q.  I keep reading that your coaches are USPTA certified, well what does that mean?
A.  USPTA stands for the United States Professional Tennis Association, which is the largest and oldest tennis teaching organization in the world.  To become USPTA certified, coaches must pass various tests that evaluate a pro's ability to teach proper tennis techniques.  Being USPTA certified guarantees that you are learning from the best and most highly trained tennis teacher available.  By having our coaches go through this training and testing we can guaranty you the best possible pro coaches available.  Just one of our so called Krissman Advantages!

Q.  We are arriving in Japan this summer to prepare for the new school year.  Are there any summer tennis activities for my child or me during the summer months?
A.  Yes, we have several school sites that offer summer day camps (one hour a day, every day from Monday-Thursday with Friday as a rain day).  These camps usually run through the month of June and the last two weeks of August.  Click here to get more information.
